THE CHALLENGE

Our client, a prominent executive search firm specializing in agricultural industries, faced a pressing challenge: finding the right fit for the role of Vice President of Supply Chain at a long-standing herb grower situated in central California. With a legacy spanning over 25 years, this grower has been a reliable supplier to both consumers and food manufacturers, offering an array of pastes, purees, and cut herbs.

The client sought a transformative leader capable of managing logistical intricacies while bringing strategic vision to navigate central California's dynamic growing conditions. Beyond proficiency in warehousing, logistics and inventory management, the ideal candidate needed expertise in forecasting, pricing dynamics, and vendor relations to ensure operational efficiency and long-term success in the evolving agricultural landscape.

THE STRATEGY

We began our search for the right leader by discussing the role requirements with our client, the executive search firm. It became clear that the largest hurtle in the search would be relocation to a small town in central California. Second to the relocation piece, the grower needed someone that deeply understood the agriculture industry and complexities of managing perishable inventory.

With the role requirements in mind, we initiated our search geographically. We focused and exhausted the market in a 100 miles radius around the company headquarters. As research progressed, the candidate list needed to be bolstered so the team continued to source for bullseye candidates as far as 250 miles around the company headquarters. Regular updates were shared with our client to ensure that the sourcing was on target and they were happy with the pipeline.
