THE CHALLENGE

Our client, a leading global mining company, is seeking an agile and dynamic individual to support their large and expanding mining operation. The newly established Technical Services Manager position was to enhance collaboration within a diverse technical team.

The ideal candidate will have comprehensive experience across all stages of mining operations, from ore body evaluation to testing, processing, recovery, and waste management. There was a strong preference for those with hardrock and open pit mining experience. As the technical lead, the candidate will unify all departments into a cohesive team. While a traditional mining engineering background is beneficial, candidates with expertise in metallurgy, geology, or project management were also considered.

Chess pieces on a checkered board.

THE STRATEGY

Our mining practice leveraged recent experience in LATAM to build a pipeline of candidates for the Technical Services Manager role. Recognizing the need for diverse expertise, we targeted individuals with varied backgrounds in technical services, projects, and operations. By combining insights from our previous search work in projects and operations with new research in technical services, we developed a robust candidate portfolio. Given our client's strong market reputation, we adopted a targeted outreach approach. We held weekly meetings with our client to align on the desired experience, ensuring the candidates possessed the specific technical skills and leadership abilities necessary to foster collaboration with leaders across the business.
